We See...

...Tim's already at the intimidation tactics. He is the reigning champ so that's his right. The competition has gotten much better so we advise he not get too comfortable.

Welcome to Summer Mixin, the blog devoted to a Summer Mix contest that originated between a few friends while living in Staunton, Virginia. Now we've moved apart yet are bringing the mix contest back to keep the magic alive.

This is the 4th straight year of the contest. It started in 2005 and was judged for two years straight. In 2007 each friend made mixes that went unjudged. This year the judging and competition is back on. You can catch up on the story by reviewing the past mixes (links in the far column) or see Tim's 2006 post or Tom's. We're sure Mike will be checking in to add his two cents on the history of the mix, or maybe he's saving up to repair his car.

New this year to the contest is a new contestant, Rob Monkey. Rob enters the contest with a fresh perspective. Although we don't believe his Alvin and the Chipmunks tunes will qualify as summer music we look forward to hearing his take on summer through music.

The rules are simple. Each contestant makes a mix of songs that represent summertime. They submit their mixes to our official who then labels each before distribution to the judging panel. The judges rate each mix on the quality of the mix, song selection, and overall tone. The winner will be announced on this site some time in mid-June. The loser (lowest rated mix) buys a round of pie at the Beverley Restaurant in Staunton, VA, or another item TBD since we all live far far away.

Welcome...

Talkin' Summer Mixin'

Yo fellow mixers and all the rest! I was going to post this on my blog (probably still will) but thought why not place it here. I'm sure Ol' Lazy Acres will accuse me of more intimidation tactics, but I see it as "talkin' summer mixin'."

Currently listening to what will most likely be my Summer 2008 Mix that I'll place into competition come Tuesday. Listening on the big stereo system for the full effect. I'm diggin' it, I must say.

Must add here that for more me, I scratched my 2007 Mix (as it went unjudged) and may or may not have included one or two tracks from that mix in my 2008 edition.

I had some trouble with my opener, as I mentioned in another post, then I replaced it not once but twice, and feel very content with my current selection.

I shall offer no further info on my 2008 Mix, other than I feel very good about this mix and think it ranks up there with my 2005 and 2006 mixes.

While I can't offer a playlist for the evening, I will say that I had a Victory Prima Pils, but it didn't feel quite like a Friday without a Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, so cracked me one of those bad turtles!

- Salud!
